From January 1, 2023, applications for exemption from compulsory insurance in the statutory pension insurance scheme, so-called exemption applications, must be submitted online. From this date, the previous paper forms of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung will no longer be admissible.

When should an application for exemption be submitted?
If you are employed as a doctor, you can apply for exemption from compulsory insurance in the statutory pension insurance. In this way, the pension insurance contributions from your employment can be paid to us. Please note that an application must be submitted for each employment and for each change of employment. In order for the exemption to be granted at the start of employment, it must be applied for within three months of the start of employment. If you submit the application after the expiration of this period, the exemption will take effect only from the date of submission of the application.

How do I apply for exemption?
You can submit your application conveniently online. You can access the application portal here.

What data is required for the application?
The following information must be provided in the application:

• your personal data
• your address
• the name of your pension scheme
• the name of the professional chamber and the start date of your membership there
• the exact title of your occupation
• the beginning of your employment
• the name and address of your employer

If you know the company number of your employer, your membership number of the Ärzteversorgung Niedersachsen and your social security number of the statutory pension insurance, you should also state these in the application.

The more accurate the information you provide in the application, the faster your application can be processed by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung.

What happens after I submit my application?
Your application is forwarded to us directly by electronic means and processed by us. We also transmit your application electronically to the Deutsche Rentenversicherung. You will receive the decision by mail as before.
